What To Bring:
Over the years we had watched and listened to Festival attendees as well as to other local and visiting birders. Here is a list of suggested items you may want to bring at least think about bringing along. Learn More
Stanwood’s and Camano Island’s mild weather and central location within Washington’s beautiful Puget Sound makes it an attractive year-round destination for people and wildlife. Winter residents include Great Blue Heron, Eagles, Hawks, and countless shorebirds. Many different species of duck can be seen from a single vantage point on the island.
In the fall and early winter months, Snow Geese winter in the bays. Bald Eagles have a strong presence on Camano as well.
Open fields, wetlands, and miles of scenic coastline encourage a diverse bird and wildlife population, no matter what time of year you visit! The 12 parks on Camano Island offer many locations from which to watch a very wide variety of birds, local and migrating.
After an exciting day of birding, relax and unwind at a charming local B&B, inn, or cabin. If you are lucky, the birds may be seen from there as well!
If you are planning on experiencing one of the "Self Guided Tours" please know that the majority (if not all) of the local birding areas require a valid Discover Pass. The Discover Pass allows you to enjoy millions of acres of Washington state-managed recreation lands – including state parks, water-access points, heritage sites, wildlife and natural areas, trails and trailheads.
